The Story of Evel Knievel

Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel, now 60, began doing tricks on his motorcycle as a teenager and later became a professional motorcycle stuntman.

A natural athlete, Knievel was a ski-jump champion and also played briefly with the Charlotte Clippers.

What really made Evel famous was zooming on his motorcycle up a ramp and over parked cars for distances of more than 150 feet, often breaking bones in the process. The daredevil sustained serious injuries in a crash landing after jumping over fountains at a Las Vegas hotel.

Not a quitter, Knievel is most famous for attempting something no one else would dare try. He wanted to jump the Snake River Canyon in Idaho. No normal motorcycle would do. So, Knievel souped up his cycle with a rocket.

Even with all that effort, he still missed the mark and fell into Snake River!

Trying to jump a canyon?

A lot of people--even religious people--are like Evel Knievel...

Many realize there is a canyon between them and God.

Some try to figure out ways to jump the canyon, just like Evel Knievel...

As important as it is to be a good person, to be part of a healthy church and to have a right understanding of doctrine, none of these things will get the job done...and, our human attempts at religion fall far short of God's righteousness (Isaiah 64:6).

In fact, like Evel Knievel, people who try to bridge the gap that way will always end up falling short...

A look at the canyon...

The Successful Jump...

There is only one way to make the jump from eternal death to eternal life....

Jesus Christ said, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me (John 14:6)

The only way to make a successful jump from eternal death to eternal life is through Jesus Christ.

Jesus' substitutionary death on the cross enables you to reach God:

Never jump alone!

You don't need to go the distance alone. In fact you can't!

For Christ to take you across into eternal life, you must personally receive him in faith...

"As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in his name" (John 1:12).

"By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works that no one should boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9).

You can receive Jesus Christ right now through prayer, which is simply talking to God. Here is a sample of how you may receive Christ into your life:

Dear God, I know I'm a sinner and can't ever on my own enter into eternal life. I know that Jesus Christ is the only way I can have a relationship with you...Please forgive me of my sins...I accept Jesus as my Savior...I want to now go your way...I give my life to you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

Does this prayer reflect the desire of your heart? If so, pray it right now and Christ will come into your life.

Once you have accepted Christ, to grow spiritually you need to get involved in a healthy Church where God's Word is faithfully preached and where you can fellowship with other Christians.
